One blog created 'every second'
I agree with the article when it stated that ‘Blogs, the homepages of the 21st Century, are free and easy to set up and use. They are popular with people who want to share thoughts online.’ There are some people who are not really comfortable with expressing themselves openly and would largely prefer to have a blog whereby they can express how they feel without being identified by others. By that, some of them feel a sense of identity where they are ‘free’ where it is almost freedom of speech. This is a very good way of writing to help one write more of English.
However, there is another group of people whom doesn’t like the idea of blogging because they believe one cannot express themselves in blogs! If blogs were meant to be online ‘personal diaries’, then one can’t write down how he/she really feels deep within.
Recently, blogging has been a very popular choice of journaling compared to personal diaries or note books. I believe that it helps us a lot in regards to our expression of words and our stand. For instance, you have an argument to make regarding a situation you are going through but you did not voice it out. You are then able to make your stand and exclaim your point of view in your personal blog!
The writer wrote, ‘What is clear is that the blogosphere is highly varied, with blogs coming in many shapes and forms, whether they be professional or for personal use.’ It is very true that blogosphere is highly varied. In the past, people use blog for official use only. However, almost everyone has a personal blog now. There are too many different kind of blogs you can find because people have blogs for different reasons already.
Therefore, the scope of blogging is expanding rapidly and there are various reasons for having a blog, be it for official or for personal use.

I cannot help but overhear Raushan and Daniel saying that blogging is about people talking to themselves.
They are quite right in a sense that when you type out your thoughts online, there is this voice in your head narrating what you want to type. Sometimes, it is your voice that follows what you are typing. However, most bloggers like to share with readers of what they think and feel of certain things they have been through etcetera so blogging is not considered as talking to yourselves in that way.
I have stumbled upon Technorati by accident. It associate tags to blogs for easier search of the content of blogs we want to read instead of randomly bloghopping which may cause us to be bored by incessant ramblings.
Freedom of speech is a controversial issue. Some of us are vocal and want our opinions heard. Some of us prefer to state our unsatisfactions without anyone knowing. I agree with Fiona many would prefer to have private blogs. You can say anything you want, not get sued and no one will get heard because it is kept to yourself. Still, if you own a private blog and feel insecure, you can always make it password protected for free using simple JavaScript.
Hui Min mentioned that bloggers tend to use short forms and broken english which may eventually lead to bad writing habits. It may jeopardise your spelling ability if you are used to it. However, on a lighter note, it is alright to use short forms for personal blogging as you may want to type your thoughts down fast before you forget them.
Personally, I find blogging/ writing in a diary/journal exciting. I own many blogs, diaries and both online and manual journals. Nowadays, I blog using my blogger account on my public blog only. Reason being is that I do not have that much time in my hands now.

Once again, the world of blogging has garnered enough attention to become a force to be
reckoned with. The blogosphere has become, and is an important tool for many to make use of to
to give their individual voices that extra edge to be heard and projected a wide audience.
The fact that more and more blogging services like MSN Spaces, Blogger, LiveJournal and such
stresses over and over again that the number of people turning to blogging is increasing
at a drastic rate. If one were to turn an ignorant eye this, he or she will soon become left of
one of the most fast growing information channels available to the public.
I agree with Hui Min's point that blogging is indeed a good way to commmunicate with the masses.
Anyone will be able to publish their views on any issue at the touch of a button. It's as
simple as that. As an added bonus, all blogs carry the "comments" link whcih fellow bloggers
can use to voice out what they feel about a particular issue or point brought up by the
author of the blog. This sets the pace for healthy discussions and communication skills where
one learns how to support what they say and how to stand by them and take responsibility of
their opinions.
However, some argue that the use of the english language is going downhill as
bloggers tend to use more shortforms, slangs and lingos in their posts. This "phenomenon" is
commonly prevalent in almost any blog one can find on the Internet. As such, people will end
up using these same terms and slangish words when they speak and write. Hence, many fear that
the use of the English Language is being jeopardised. Even though this may be true, such a
"phenomenon" is also highly prevalent in other services as well like instant messaging services
and not just blogs by themselves. Thus, it is blatantly wrong of one to point out blogging as
the sole culprit. Although some may fall prey to using lingo and slangs that they use in blogs
in their speech and written forms, most people will be able to switch between how they are
supposed to write online and how they are supposed to write and speak. Besides, the
shortform and terms bloggers use can be also considered as their lingo, wich further bonds
the whole blogger population through the similar kind of language that they use.
The flexibility of using blogs seems to be one of the top reasons for many to turn to blogging
as an alternative form of communication. One can use blogs for any intended purpose, be it using
them as personal online diaries, photo albums, project works or anything else thinkable. Therefore,
it is no wonder that blogging has become a past-time and an enjoyable hobby for many. Blogging
has become the new "in" thing and it will be no surprise if it still remains the same a few years
down the road.

Blogs have caused many a buzz in recent times. From the controversial xiaxue aka Wendy Cheng, to a Capitol Hill intern’s secret life, all these news has even taken up newspaper column spaces. What exactly is so attractive that causes everyone to want to delve into this world we call the blogosphere?
Blogs are so easily and widely available. There are so many blogging services like blogger, livejournal etc. And there is hardly any restriction on what we can say on this platform. Blogs can be used for many purposes. There are blogs about the daily lives of ordinary folk, animal viewpoints, (There is an article about this featured recently in the Sunday Times.) and also used by celebrities to reach out to their fans and also to voice their opinions on the current affairs in the world. Some politicians are also using blogs to speak out about the way their countries are run.
Issues have arise due to this phenomenon. Some people have been hauled to court for publishing seditious comments last year. Also, as mentioned, the Capitol Hill intern has also gotten the sack for publishing her secret life. The problem here is, should all and sundry be aired on such a public place where everyone and anyone have access to it?
Yes, there may be ways to protect privacy. But what exactly do these people get from airing such sensitive material? Moreover, if you intend to protect your privacy by having a password, then what is the point of typing up all these details just to hide it from the world. The reason people blog is more often than not to let others know their views. Won’t having to protect it totally defeat this purpose? Therefore, I feel that these people obviously want to draw attention to them and perhaps even enjoy 15 minutes of fame (or in this case infamy).
Regarding the use of short-forms on blog entries, I feel that it is a personal preference. For me, I try not to use such forms as I find that they are actually quite annoying to read because they look so messy as a whole. If people, students especially, choose to write this way, they can do so but they have to make sure that this does not become a habit and eat its way into their work where proper language have to be used.
Overall, I think a blog is a good thing. It is another form for people to air their views and share their lives with others. It can be use to help build bridges with others. However, one has to be responsible for their own actions. Every individual has the freedom to decide what they want to blog about. They can choose to keep their innermost thoughts to themselves or air them as they wish. Whatever it is, I feel that bloggers have to choose carefully what they say on this public avenue of speech as they are responsible for their own actions.
Blogging is so common now that it has become a part of most people’s lives. Blogging allows one to express oneself in many ways. In view of the advancements in technology, blogging has been made easily available to the world. There are also free blogging services provided. This has perhaps spurred people’s desires to blog online as the blogs are easily obtained without having to fork out any money. However, there are certain blogs where it is required that the service rendered is to be paid.
Many may find that blogging is a good way to express themselves. However, I beg to differ. I do not feel that blogging is good. Since it is so common, there is no longer the element of uniqueness present. I still prefer the old way of expressing oneself; which is through penning one’s thoughts down on paper. Sometimes, I feel that the traditional way works better than the modern way.
There are many advantages and disadvantages to blogging. Although blogging presents opportunities for people to share their thoughts, read one another’s life story, comment on what others write, have interactive conversations with one another, and many more, I feel that blogging does not present one with much privacy. This holds true as people from all over the world are able to read what you have published on your blog. Although you can make certain entries private, I think that this defeats the purpose of having a blog. The purpose of the blog is to share with people from all over the world, thus including strangers, regarding what you publish on your blog. Since you do not wish people to read certain entries, why even publish them in the first place?
However, others may feel that blogging is essential as it allows them to publish whatever they want people all over the world to see. Blogs may also be useful in many ways such as communicating with others and using them as campaigning sites. However, I am still not convinced of the usefulness of blogs and I do not see a necessity to have one myself.
This article does show that blogging has its advantages in a way that it gives yet another way for people to interact with each other. not just a place to publish your thoughts. Blogging is also increasingly gaining popularity among the people, as more and more use it for publicising ideas, or for communication.
However, i feel that as blogging become more convenient for all these people, its convenience led to people becoming more complacent, even to the extent of using language that are not of correct spellings. As the others have also already gave examples, i shall not further elaborate but i will give my view that yes, it is common nowadays that people tend to type this way for convenience sake and this can be harmful to students in a way that it will be harder to revert to normal english when doing written school work.

this way of promoting their goods are especially good for those who handmake and do not have capital to set up a shop. Once again, i guess this has shown us that the internet is a wide base for almost everything to take place. That the internet has brought us one step ahead into linking all of us closer together, giving more business and communication opportunities as well.
However, some bloggers are fond of using blogs to vent their frustration but later on realise that it is not good as their words are publicied and everyone can gain access to it. Sometimes, they tend to write unintentional comments that are degregratory to other races and other sensitive issues which could lead to possible trouble.
With this, i conclude that blogging has made this world, better in terms that another alternative to communicating and doing business, however, it also provides another outlet for people to publicly give comments about issues, which may not be necessary good.

Blogs have become increasing popular over time, from discreet public display of personal thoughts to business opportunities today, it's obvious that blogging is here to stay.
I agree that with the paradox that blogging is private expression which is expressed to show. I am sure no blogger will blog about matters that they do not wish to reveal, but they would naturally blog about things they wish to reveal. Perhaps at the back of their heads they yearn that someone might read, or even care of what they had written. But in the case of degradatory remarks, we would have to priortise respecting human rights on top of freedom of speech for harmony's sake in the society that we live in today.
We should not throw the blame of our falling language ability solely on blogging as there are other ways which decreases our language efficiency- text messaging, online messenger and even our daily usage of English.
That boils down to a question to ask. Do people really have to use perfect english all the time?
As for business, I think the blog serves as another creative advertising agent- not a powerful one though. It is just another another way to reach out to the masses as blogging is popular now. This, however, is a good sign for the not-affluent as it is a free way of advertising, but whether people actually view the advertising, we will have to wait and see.
Power comes with great responsibility. The power of blogs today have to be tame by the responsibility to do the right thing, if not there would be a backlash- with a price to pay.
Blog's are great. Blogs allow one to express themselves, a medium for everyone to pour their anguish, hatred, happiness or woe. The blog is created to allow one to express themselves and allow others to feel how they feel and perhaps share their own experiences as well. Blogs are great. Not many are comfortable with talking, some would prefer to write down their troubles. As an added bonus, your troubles can be decorated with nice stylo milo backgrounds.
What's that? i just used Singlish? You think i got that from blogging? Well, it is true that blogs might encourage the use of singlish. But come on, the blog is supposed to be an informal place, a place where it's filled with colours and happy people, a place where you'd feel happy and more likely to write your stuff on. Who would want to create a dull and boring blog with not so nice colours? I personally feel that the use of singlish is okay on blogs. 1) the blog's an informal space for you to write your stuff 2) nobody would introduce singlish into their formal writings 3) singlish's fun.
The internet connects thousands of people around the world. by blogging, you'd be sharing your troubles with thousands of people around the world. Ain't that great? Alas! there is one blog i'd like to mention http://www.colinandkero.blogspot.com/ this is such a super cool blog. it's about two gay guys and their life. i mean, check it out, gay guys create blogs to tell everyone in the world: "hey, we're gay and we're happy about it." they're sharing their thoughts and feelings with thousands of people around the world. Even my friends in australia are talking about them. Now, if this gay couple had wrote down their feelings into their own personal diaries, would anyone be able to read about them? i don't think so, unless somebody steals their personal diaries and published them.
i feel that blogs are the things of now. Being in the 21st century, with the invention of the internet which connects thousands of people together, the blog would be a medium for teenagers, and adults, to express themselves, in a way which pens and papers cannot do.
The blogosphere is the new place where we communicate and convey messages to people around us. Come to think of it, how many smses you would have to send, how many phone calls would you have to make if you were to allow your circle of friends to know your daily life and happenings. Blog is a way where you would be able to post entries of events that makes you happy and others that made you sad.
Besides being used for diary entries purposes, actually a blog can be used as a webpage for net surfers to navigate around finding informations from all around the world, as some people may use blogs to sell items, as well as post findings and comments.
Reason being why blogs are being so popular nowadays could be probably due to trend and also the ability of personalizing it as your own. Fanciful colours with pictures that depicts story of the stuffs and messages you want to convey to your readers, and published by you, yourself. This sense of belonging makes the whole idea of people creating and updating their blog, more fruitful.
Moreover, the whole idea is that, it is free and the blogs are easily accessible and convenient to use as the uploading is fast despite the huge number of bloggers. Of course, the disadvantages of blogs are the inability to post the so-called immature comments that would sparkle unhappiness among feeling s of people.
Thus, it is always good not to give any relevant details of yourselves, this includes pictures, links and names when you want to comment on sensitive issues.

Blogging has become an ‘in trend’ lately with the number of bloggers coming from Blogspot, livejournal and cyworld rising non-stop. The numbers are large and bloggers now come from different background, country, culture, language and the list goes on.
Blogging is indeed the best form of expressing views, opinions and feelings of one who refuses to do so with others physically. Here, in the blog-world, one is free to release his expressions of the day’s activities to share with others despite the fact that blogging is an online diary. It could be a community formed to promote or it could be personal. With the rising number and growing blog-users evident by the article given, many has failed to see the advantages that blogging has to offer.
Blogging provides interaction with one another from various parts of the world. For example, I myself own a livejournal and joined a community that can be found in it. Through this community, I have successfully made pen pals from the USA, Korea, Japan and China. I began to learn more about their culture and lifestyles compared to the internet and documentaries. This will help in my understanding of people from other parts of the world.
Blogging is thus therefore another form of communication with people worldwide. Exchange of views and thought are forms in which this form of communication works. The blogger blogs about his feelings regarding the events that he occurred. Those from other parts of the world stumble upon the blog, reads and usually give advice. In this case, having to know that someone out that cares help relieve worries and stress and boost self esteem. Also, one will feel less embarrass of sharing problems with strangers who have no background information but just the basic information regarding the blogger. This way, people get to distress by the talking to a complete stranger.
No wonder blogging rates have gone up. Blogging now seems to facilitate communication and sharing between parties worldwide. blogging is indeed a from of technology that shrinks the space between continents for people to get to know one another.
